Hello Everyone, here is our first official blog post! We still aren’t sure how we scored this awesome handle/username for our fun project but we took it as a sign… “The Barbershop Duet” truly fits us so well. YouTube, Instagram, facebook and this domain are all ours! Now…why this?! Keep reading…

Marcus Klinger with Klinger Vocal Studios and Sara Vincent with Sara Vincent Virtual Pilates from now on every Saturday morning at 9am PDT on YouTube are now (drumroll….) THE BARBERSHOP DUET!! For both singing in a pair and a partner class in pilates are both referred to as duets, the name truly found us but it couldn’t fit us better.

Whether we’re camping together, at the beach, at the theme park, we have always had a particular fondness for beautiful scents. After Marcus’s razor club got too expensive for the lack of quality we were receiving he started researching safety razors and decided on the Hensen AL13. In researching the safety razors he found a whole new world of artisan shave soaps! After peeking over his shoulder and seeing the awesome labels and care that was put into each of these products I was getting sort of jealous and wondered…wait why can’t I try these myself, I have to shave too! They don’t have to just be for men.

This got us thinking, and wanting to learn so much more about why this world, how was shaving now presented as a ritual, or time for “me time” to treat yourself and enjoy these awesome shaves and scents. It’s something we ahve to do almost every day, why can’t it be an enjoyable experience, not just a check off your morning prep list?!

Ok…wait, what ARE artisan shave soaps you ask…well let’s hope we can help you find out together!

We are both performers, and grew up in the world of show business, so creating a show about our new hobby seemed like a fun idea! We’d been looking for a project to do together for a while, and as long as we hadn’t even opened our first soap yet, we decided to document our journey into this brave new world, and share it with you, with our first reactions on camera! No shaving, but there WILL be a lather (it’s how you get the shave soap activated into a lather to use for your shave, it involves a brush and lots of mixing)!

The main challenge we had was reading the descriptions from the artisan creators about the scents of the soaps and our minds being blown by the detailed descriptions and ingredients but having a hard time hearing in “normal peoples terms” what that translated to via the actual scent of the soap. There are tons of youtube channels out there that talk about how the soaps work and feel for the shaves with safety razors while you watch the actual shave happen but not all talked about the smell of the shave soaps which was our main interest…so here we are! Starting off with a bang and jumping in with both feet to bring you those answers! We are COMPLETE newbies but have done tons of research this past month and are enjoying having something we can both learn together alongside each other.

We begin our journey as The Barbershop Duet, launching Saturday July 22, with three full review videos for different shave soaps along with an explainer video! Marcus even made original music for the bumpers… you might recognize each as a variation on a familiar little theme if you listen closely. I am handling most of the social media, writing, and organization of the episodes, and coordinating all of the soaps we bought! We truly make a wonderful team and it’s been way too fun to have a project to collaborate on together. I am sure it may seem silly from the outside knowing our normal jobs/interests but we just wanted something fun and new that wasn’t connected to our everyday jobs which we are well versed in, we wanted to challenge of starting at the beginning together.

We’ve had a great time unboxing our first three soaps, direct from the creators, and we hope you’ll like our first three review videos as we, hat-in-hand, enter this thriving and kind community to document our experiences. We will keep our show, and our comment section, kind and welcoming, in keeping with this online shaving community. If you wouldn’t say something around our thanksgiving dinner table then we would encourage you to keep it to yourself. We really want to create an awesome community for everyone to enjoy, it seems like we all need that in our lives right now.
